Week 6: Project Group Presentations
Week Six
When thinking about and making my groups documentary presentation i had a few images in mind that i felt inspired my initial idea. Me and my group were originally planning to do a documentary on tinder and its effect on young peoples view and idea of love. However, we decided that this topic would have been difficult to execute and doesn't necessarily fit with the brief so we started to explore the evolution of cinema as our final idea. this was one of my initial ideas from the start and was very glad that i could develop it further as i had many inspirations for it.

There were a few photographs that particularly inspired me..
This Photograph on a young boy with his finger in his mouth by well known photographer Weegee inspired the look i was initially wanting to achieve from the documentary. I find that the real and rawness of these photograph is rather effective and gritty, which i think really captures the audiences attention.
This abstract Noè Sendas Photograph is intriguing and interesting. i feel that this inspired me the most out of all my research only because personally i enjoy poetic film making and i feel that this fits in well to that genre. i like how this photograph is completely open for interpretation by its viewer which i think is important in filmmaking as well, especially in fictional and poetic style films. however, i do realise that our documentary has to be observational or.. so this type of filming style may not be so fitting to the type of documentary i am filming. it does make me wonder whether to slightly alter to the documentaries genre into a hybrid but this may prove a difficulty to the group.
Presentation:
I felt that i did an relatively good job with making the documentary as i addressed inspirational aspects, technical aspects and Aims of our Documentary, i feel it was well informed although could have included slightly more about our internal plans for what we intend to create during the editing process.
Reading:
Reading: Rabiger, M. (2004) Directing the Documentary, London: Focal Press. Ch.9 Critical Writing (NB useful for Presentations).
- Benefits of writing and how it helps you develop: 'Analysing a documentary and writing about what you discover makes you pay close attention to how every aspect works. in some strange way this lets you take possession of a film. to write is not just to report on what you know but to set about discovering your lack of knowledge on specific topics etc. writing forces the mind to examine itself then go further. in other words the act of writing allows you and your brain to explore and investigate your thoughts, feelings, memories, reactions and impressions
- Academic Writing norms: Your writing should be in cohesive ,clear and direct. it should be in active-voice prose that is well structured, that develops your arguments logically, and supports each argument with strong and relevant examples from the work under review. You should back up evidence with detailed examples to illustrate your arguments. you should always give references for any ideas you have borrowed or any quotations you have used.
